CLEMSON EXTENSION MASTER GARDENER PROGRAM DEFINITIONS

Master Gardener Status

Master Gardeners are classified according to their status, depending upon their level of volunteerism. The following are defined below: Certified, Active, Candidate, Intern, Student, Alumni, and Emeritus.

Student CE Master Gardener

A person who has been selected for the MGTC, or is currently attending the MGTC

Intern CE Master Gardener

A person who attended and completed the Master Gardener Training Course (MGTC), demonstrated the skills as defined in the CE MGTC Competency Standards, but has not completed the initial forty (40) hour volunteer commitment

Certified CE Master Gardner

A person who has completed the Master Gardener Training Course (MGTC), demonstrated the skills as defined in the CE MGTC Competency Standards, and completed the initial forty (40) hour volunteer commitment.

Active CE Master Gardener

A Certified CE Master Gardener who has completed twenty (20) or more Extension approved volunteer hours during the previous calendar year, and who has attended, during the previous calendar year, a minimum of ten (10) hours of Extension approved horticulture and/or home garden related continuing education.

Active CEMGs will be eligible for milestone pins, recognition awards, association officers, Advanced Master Gardener Training Series, Special Events,

Alumni CE Master Gardener

A Certified SC Master Gardener or Candidate SC Master Gardener who completes less than thirty (30) Extension approved volunteer hours during the previous calendar year. See Active CEMG as well as CEMG Reactivation.

Emeritus CE Master Gardener

Ten years as Active MG, or 3000 hours; an application must be submitted to the local Master Gardener Coordinator and approved by a review committee to be established by the State Coordinator for the Clemson Extension Master Gardener Program.
